APPLICATION |
Concrete to be finished by power or hand steel trowel followed by soft hair broom to obtain light texture finish. Prior to the application of Amshield Deck™ on new concrete, sufficient time must pass to allow the excess moisture to evaporate. This time will vary on conditions and is normally not less than 28 days. Use of curing agents other than sodium silicate must be avoided. Fully cured concrete surface may be damp to touch but not visibly wet. Any fins or protuberances must be removed using power grinding. Damaged areas should be restored to match adjacent areas using compatible grout. For existing concrete decks, remove surface contaminants, if any, prior to surface preparation. Remove Oil and Grease by multiple detergent wash, preferably using steam ( solvents should not be used as they will cause the petroleum products to penetrate the concrete surface ). |
Surface Preparation |
Sweep blast the concrete surface using expendable abrasive such as Silica Sand. The blast nozzle should be kept at sufficient distance to avoid over blast and exposing of aggregate. Following blasting remove dust using air jet (with the abrasive turned off). Where open blasting is not permitted best results are obtained with centrifugal wheel blasting using Wheelabrator or equivalent. The profile to be obtained will be dictated by the thickness of topping to be provided. Acid etching using 10% HCl may be used selectively in place of abrasive blasting (acid etching does roughen the surface but does not remove loose material) but care should be taken to rinse immediately to prevent formation of salts. Ensure neutralization of surface using pH paper as per ASTM D - 4262. Active cracks (over 1/16”) shall be routed in a V-groove and filled with approved polyurethane sealant. Sealant to be applied to inside area of crack only, not applied to deck surface. Any exposed metal surfaces should be blast cleaned or wire brushed to near white before priming and coating. |

Priming |
Substrate must be free of laitance, dust , oils and grease. Mix both components of P-IV primer with a slow speed drill for a minimum of 3 minutes. Avoid air entrainment. Allow the mixed primer to rest for 3 minutes and brush / spray apply using airless spray and 0.019” tip. Protect primed area from rain and moisture. Do not over-apply primer. Amshield Deck™ : Divide the surface to be coated into grids and calculate area of each. Calculate volume of materials to be applied to obtain specified thickness. Make temporary dykes using steel strips for higher thickness. Mix both components with a slow speed drill for 2-3 minutes till color is uniform. Avoid air entrainment by ensuring tip is fully immersed into liquid. Scrape down sides and bottom of mixing vessel and mix again for 1-2 minutes. Evenly pour into demarked area and spread with a trowel. Mix 10-15 Kgs in one lot till applicators develop skills to apply more area within pot life. Before beginning application measure the dew point using a digital psychrometer and the surface temperature using non-contact IR thermometer. Avoid applying if the air dew point is less than 3oC below the ambient temperature. Avoid applying during times of rapidly rising temperatures (forenoon) or if inclement weather is imminent. Clean all tools and equipment after use with Toluene. Safety : 100% Solids Polyurethane systems are solvent free eliminating solvent health hazards and flammability concerns. All safety precautions warranted by good industrial hygiene practices and regulated by local, state or central laws must be taken into consideration while applying these coatings. Avoid contact with skin or eyes by wearing gloves and goggles. |
