100%
SOLIDS
Purethane® coatings do not contain any solvents (zero VOC). They coat free
of pinholes, holidays, blisters or craters and cure with no shrinkage.
HIGH CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Purethane®
is unaffected by nearly all acids and bases in dilute
to medium concentrations. It is impervious to sea water, salt solutions, raw
and oxygenated sewage, bleaches, petroleum, vegetable oils, salt solutions
and many specialty chemicals.
HIGHLY IMPERMEABLE
Purethane® is impermeable to most liquids and has very low water vapor
transmission. Tests indicate that Purethane® completely prevents
transmission of Oxygen at 1 Atm pressure. The highly impermeable nature of
Purethane® coatings prevents corrosive gases or liquid from penetrating the
coating and corroding metal surfaces or reinforcing bars in concrete.
ADHESION
Purethane® has excellent adhesion to steel. Concrete or wood substrates will
break in tests with no effect on the
Purethane® bond. High adhesion prevents
mechanical damage and intrusion of corrosive liquids or gases under the
coating.
OUTSTANDING ABRASION RESISTANCE
Purethane® coatings have exceptional resistance to abrasion. Abrasive wear
is 1/10th of mild steel.
Purethane® is excellent for slurry lines, coal and
aggregate chutes, in gas / liquid lines containing solid particulate,
horizontal directional drilling and on hulls of icebreakers.
EXCEPTIONAL IMPACT RESISTANCE
Purethane® has unmatched impact resistance whether on steel or on soft
substrates such as foam insulation.
Purethane® coated pipelines can be
buried with any backfill without causing any damage to the coating. The
coating resists damage due to transport, handling and laying operations.
Thus Cathodic protection currents are minimized leading to large savings in
recurring costs.
CATHODIC PROTECTION
Cathodic protection voltages will not cause blisters or peeling of
Purethane® coatings.
Purethane® exceeds industry criteria for cathodic disbondment when
tested according to ASTM G 8 / G-95 / DIN 30671.

ELONGATION AND FLEXIBILITY
Purethane® coatings are formulated to be sufficiently elastic while
retaining high cross-linking and low permeability. Elasticity enables
coatings to withstand thermal expansions and contractions of substrates.
Tests show that
Purethane® coatings will withstand cracks of up to 1.4 mm
initiated in the concrete under the coating. A one-mm coating on a steel
plate will bend over an 8mm mandrel without cracking.
EXCELLENT WEATHER RESISTANCE
Purethane®
has excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation as well as
degradation by severe weather conditions. Accelerated weathering test for
over 2,000 hours show no effect on the coating other than a change in color
and slight surface chalking. The excellent weathering characteristics of
Purethane® are confirmed by installations over 15 years old, practically
unaffected by exposure.
UNLIMITED BUILD
Purethane® coatings can be applied from 0.5mm (20 mils) to 25mm ( 1000 mils
) thickness even on vertical surfaces in one application using multiple
passes without sagging or distortion. Recommended thickness usually varies
between 0.75mm ( 30 mils ) to 3.00mm (120 mils).
RAPID APPLICATION AND CURE
Purethane® coatings are spray applied using plural component airless spray
equipment offering high application rates. The applied coating cures rapidly
and can be water immersed in 2 hours.
Purethane® will cure
at temperatures as low as (-) 40oF/40oC.
Purethane® 385/9000 with a longer pot life is
available for easy repair jobs by brush / squeegee and spray for
self-leveling floors.
HYDROPHOBIC NATURE
Unlike most other 100% Solids Polyurethanes,
Purethane® Coatings are
hydrophobic in nature. Like Polyurea coatings, they are practically
unaffected by damp environments during spray. They are much more applicator
friendly and give fine finishes unlike the Polyurea coatings which are
difficult to apply and have “orange peel” and flow / wetting problems.
Adhesion to damp substrates (like Polyureas) requires specialized primers.
RETARDS FLAME
Purethane® is certified by Lloyds Register Of Shipping as ‘Coating Having
Low Flame Spread Characteristics’.
